The Fireside Bowl that I remember from the Nineties was more of a venue to see live shows (Punk, mostly) than a place to actually bowl. It is now back to being a bowling alley again from what I hear. This area around Fullerton and California has seen a lot of growth in the last decade.

Just an old furniture store sign on Milwaukee Ave. near Logan Square. These elaborate signs from Chicago’s glorious past may soon disappear as gentrification continues here. Growth is good, but erasing history is not.

There are many great Victorian and Arts and Crafts style bungalows along Logan Boulevard in Logan Square. Each of them has its own unique character. What many do have in common is that they have wrought iron fences. This is one of them.

Snow covered chess board on a cold January day. This is located right next to the Logan Square station. In the warmer months, locals would hang out here. On this day it was all by its lonesome.

Sometimes you look for a photo opportunity and find nothing. Sometimes it finds you. This was taken during a snowstorm just before the afternoon rush. I took quite a few pictures on the Belmont platform that day– but this one meant the most to me. This made it all worth standing in the cold wind and snow.

Davis Theatre 2010

Up further north on Lincoln Avenue, we find the Davis Theater. It’s located in the Lincoln Square neighborhood and was built in 1918. In 1999, it was slated for demolition by developers but the community stepped in and saved it. Lincoln Square is great neighborhood , by the way. On the day I took this photo, it was around five degrees fahrenheit and after I took this shot, I made a b-line for some hot tea at the Starbucks across the street!
