This was taken by the Blue Line Tracks on Fullerton and Milwaukee. The lighting was nice all day, but it became extraordinary when this shot was taken.Â

This was from my first portrait shoot with Natalie. I almost overlooked this while browsing through the images. Her gaze is hypnotizing.

I believe this was taken somewhere in Lincoln Park. These old fire escapes always evoke a noir-like feeling in me. It’s  like in a old black and white film where the bad guy escapes on a rainy night down the fire escape in order to get away.

This is Broadway and Briar in the Lake View neighborhood. The area saw plenty of change in the nineties. Reckless Records is still in the area, although they moved across the street. Various new bars and restaurants opened up as well. As a side note : It was around this time that I bought a couple new lenses. One was a 135mm, and the other was a 28mm wide angle lens. I began to incorporate the wide angle lens quite a bit. Dramatic angles also began to appear in my photographs. It was a interesting way for me to explore the next phase of Urban Views: one that had more of a surreal touch to it.

I came upon this wonderful scene while walking through Lincoln Park one summer day. This was how I saw the scene–nothing was set up! It had such a tranquility to it.Â

I used to go to The Alley back in 1989 as a teenager and still shopped there well into my twenties. You could buy anything from Doc Martens to biker jackets, to incense there. Anyone who was into the whole Punk/Goth/New Wave scene shopped there. Yes, the back entrance is in an alley. When this photo was taken, it had these great murals that featured many Rock icons such as Elvis, John Lennon, and Jim Morrison. Since then, they seemed to become more commercialized. It’s not the same as it was. Maybe its me being older, but, it used to have this great vibe that was reflected by the eclectic neighborhood. Don’t ever grow up!

Little Vietnam in the Northeast fringe of Uptown, is an Asian community spanning a few blocks centered on the Red Line Argyle stop. The area always seems busy due to the many businesses crammed into those few blocks.Â

Another photo from the south end of Lincoln Park while it was undergoing gentrification. I’m pretty sure that luxury town homes took over this spot.

This is the other side of the street from my previous post: 900 Block of Belmont Looking West. On this side of the street, is where all the action on Saturday night was. The kids coming to and from Meduas’s would congregate along here back in the late 80’s. There were always interesting characters hanging around here.

I almost thought this day was lost. It was raining for most of the day. The temperature hovered near 60 degrees and conditions were not great. My fellow photographer/friend and I decided to stick it out. Eventually, as the rain stopped, I grabbed my gear and told my buddy he should get out of the truck with his gear and explore as well. As we were walking, I noticed that fog was rising up from the canyon floor. This was an unbelievable sight. I quick set up my camera and tripod and took some light readings. I shot several rolls of black and white and color film. This was one of the better ones. I shot this with my old Yashica D.
